Creating + Building with Natural Stone

1927 - 1928
Kaufhaus Petersdorff
Ulica Szewska 6/7
50-041 Breslau (Polen)

Architect
Erich Mendelsohn, 1887 - 1953

The former department store Rudolf Petersdorff is a 6-storey steel skeleton construction, which is still used as a store today. The fashion house Petersdorff was located in two old buildings at a street corner near the market. Mendelsohn's task was to replace the corner building by a new building and to combine it with the adjacent old building. A semicircular oriel tower was constructed at the street corner. The façades are covered with Cannstatt travertine slabs.
