Architecturally, the Olympic stadium with its clear geometrical structures is based on buildings of antiquity.
Parts of the Berlin stadium were executed below ground level, with only the upper ring made of Franconian shell limestone protruding above the ground.
The stadium oval is aligned in an east-west direction and is interrupted in the west by an opening above the marathon gate, which allows the view of the bell tower.
